The annual “Brille en Pille” Bike Run and Colour Run are one of many events hosted by the *Piet Potgieter Retirement Home in Mokopane (Potgietersrus) to promote the active ageing of its residents and to raise funds for the functioning of the home.
“The bike and fun run offer residents the opportunity to create bonds with the community,” says Sr Mariaan van Tonder, the organiser. “The accompanying bazaar is a way of supplementing the home’s funds to better the accommodation and facilities. Our homes receive only a small subsidy from the state and thus need to take it on themselves to raise the necessary funds.”
The “Brille en Pille” Funday and Bazaar is hosted on 2 November 2019 from 06:00 to 14:00 at the Piet Potgieter Retirement Home. Apart from various food stalls with pancakes and jaffles, the residents’ handicrafts such as needlework, baked goods and other handwork will also be for sale.
The artist Danie van Niekerk will entertain visitors throughout the day, and the World Cup Rugby will be aired on a big screen in the beer garden.
Visitors can register for a Colour Run of 3 or 6km from 06:00. Costs range from R70 for adults to free for toddlers. The Colour Run starts at 07:00.
Registration for the Bike Run through town will commence at 08:00. Entries cost R100 per person and include a bike run patch and breakfast, as well as an entry for the lucky draw for prizes to the value of R1 000 each.
Breakfast for non-bikers is R50 and will be served until 10:30.
The mass bike run will start at 11:00.
