The “Brille en Pille” Fun Day is around the corner. Come and enjoy a pancake or a jaffle and support the residents of the home’s homemade baked goodies and their own handicrafts which will also be sold at the bazaar on Saturday, 7 November 2020. The guest artist Danie van Niekerk will entertain visitors throughout the day.
This event is hosted annually by the *Piet Potgieter Retirement Home in Mokopane (Potgietersrus) to promote the active ageing of its residents and to raise funds for the home. “The bike and fun run offer residents the opportunity to create bonds with the community and to feel young again,” says Mariana van Tonder, the organiser and manager of the home.
“The accompanying bazaar is a way of supplementing the home’s funds to better the accommodation and facilities. Our homes receive only a small subsidy from the state and thus need to take it on themselves to raise the necessary funds.”
The theme of this year’s Bike Charity Run is Jailhouse Rock. Registration for the mass ride through town will commence at 08:00. Entries cost R100 per person and include a bike run patch and breakfast, as well as an entry for the lucky draw for prizes to the value of R1 000 each. Breakfast will be served from 08:00-10:30 whereafter the mass ride will begin at 11:00.
There are also big prizes up for grabs in the Colour Run which is also part of the day’s festivities. The Colour Run starts at 07:30 and costs range from free entry for pre-schoolers, R70 for adults and R30 for the elderly.
